Cablecraft Motion Controls History

Cablecraft Motion Controls is an amalgam of several successful, small, privately owned businesses.

JJ Tourek Manufacturing Company was founded in 1920 and produced precision screw machine products for a broad range of industries. In 1954, a new company was spawned from JJ Tourek - Superior Ball Joint Company. For years, they existed as fierce competitors. Tuthill Corporation purchased Superior Ball Joint in 1968, added resources and products, and changed the name to Superior Linkage. The business soon became a leader in the supply of rod ends, ball joints and complete linkage assemblies.

Eventually, Tourek was purchased by Tuthill. A European facility, Miniature Precision Bearing (U.K) was added in 1990 and both combined with Superior to form the Tuthill Linkage Group. Another competitor, National Rod Ends, was acquired in 1994; further expanding Tuthill's breath of product to include precision, high capacity rod ends. The Linkage Group became a dominant force in the supply of rigid, mechanical motion controls.

In 1950, CABLECRAFT® began a very similar odyssey. Started as a supplier of cables for sporting goods equipment, they soon evolved into an aggressive manufacturer and marketer of sophisticated control cables and assemblies to industrial and aviation customers. Purchased by Tuthill Corporation in 1986, Cablecraft was combined with a European acquisition, Bristow Controls LTD., creating a formidable cable group.

Realizing the synergies that existed between the cable and linkage groups, Tuthill boldly combined the two units in 2005 to form the Tuthill Controls Group. By effectively utilizing its corps of talented experts and emphasizing complete control assemblies and systems, they provided innovative motion solutions worldwide.

Now the Tuthill Controls Group has been purchased by a private equity firm. They will be known as Cablecraft Motion Controls. While the name is new, our people and our products remain. The quality you demand. Then. Now. Tomorrow.
